Raymond S. Ehrman
We want to express our gratitude for our loving father, grandfather,
great grandfather, and as a son for the devotion, commitment and love
shown to our family. Raymond S. Ehrman formerly of Squirrel Hill and
Ross Township died on Friday, January 22, 2016 at the age of 100. Ray, the son of Raymond S. Ehrman and Grace Ehrman was born in 1915 at the Presbyterian Hospital, then on the North Side. When he was three days old he became the youngest baby in the Presbyterian Hospital to have received a blood infusion to that date. He graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School and then Pitt’s School of Business Administration, as a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Pi Lambda Phi. Ray became a CPA in 1940 and continued in the accounting practice for
over 60 years. In 1971 he was elected President of the Pittsburgh
Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA’s. During the 1960’s he
was active in the coal industry and became President of the National
Fuel Credit Association, headquartered in Chicago. He was also
President of the Pittsburgh Jaycees and was chosen that year’s most
outstanding president in Pennsylvania while the Pittsburgh chapter was
selected the best chapter in the state and chosen in the top 10
nationally. Ray served as the Earned Income Tax Collector for the
Chartiers Valley School District from 1960 to 1964 and was an elected
Auditor for Ross Township for 3 terms. In 1965 Ray opened his office
for the practice of public accounting and became the Pittsburgh
partner of the regional accounting firm of Adler and Company. The
partnership merged into the national firm, JK Lasser & Company which
subsequently merged into Deloitte and Touche. After retiring from
Deloitte in 1984 he served as the controller and member of the Board
at the Civic Light Opera until 1990. For the next 10 years he
continued an active tax practice with his son Philip. Ray was active
in Pitt alumni circles serving on Alumni Council and for a year was
President of the Pitt Business Administration Alumni Association. Ray
was a member of the Masonic Lodge (231) and the Syria Temple.
Ray was inducted into the US Army in 1942 and was transferred into the
newly separated US Air Force. He served in the 8th and 9th Air Forces
in both England and Germany for 4 years and was attached to the 56th
fighter group. He was discharged as a technical sergeant, 5 striper,
and chief clerk of a finance office. While in service he met his
future bride, Dolly McIlree of Scotland and was married in 1945 in
Glasgow, Scotland. Ray and Dolly were married for over 70 years and
have 3 children, James Ehrman (married to Nancy) of Bridgeville,
Victoria Al Ebrahim (married to Paul Rehwald) of Squirrel Hill and
Philip Ehrman(married to Barbara) of the South Side. They also have 8
grandchildren, Thari, Dana, Bibi, Tracy, Benjamin, Alex, Kyle and
Brennan along with 3 great grandchildren, Lulu, Laith and Sami. Ray
was very interested in stamp collecting, autograph collecting,
genealogy and travel. He had been in all continents, except Australia,
and in 48 states of the US plus 23 countries. Services at Rodef Shalom Temple, 4905 Fifth Avenue (at Morewood) on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 10 AM. Visitation one hour prior to services at Temple (9 - 10 AM) Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation.
