CALIG, ELLEN: On Wednesday, February 10, 2016; There is nothing like a mother's love and no one loved her children more than Ellen.  Born on January 9, 1940, she was the daughter of Donald and Dorothy Israel and the beloved sister of Roslyn Shore of Atlanta, Georgia and Fran Schreiber (Marvin) of Allison Park, Pennsylvania.  Ellen met her husband, Eliott, at age thirteen when he pulled her from a sewer that she had jumped into after a ball, injuring her ankle.  They married five years later and raised three children, Debbie (Kevin) Brode of Allison Park, Lynda (Greg) Theiler of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jeffrey (Lauren) Calig of Cleveland, Ohio.  She was the Grams, Bubba, Bubbie to grandchildren Danny, Matthew, Michael and Andrew Brode, Sarah and Rachael Theiler, and Gillian and Ethan Calig, all of whom she loved, spoiled and stalked on Facebook.  Ellen was a passionate, energetic and engaging woman.  Her house was the place where her children's friends gathered for food, fun and a little counseling, where Steeler games were passionately watched along with every other major sports event. She then turned her energy to Linton's, an upscale woman's boutique. With her keen eye for fashion and gift with customers, she went on to become the buyer and store manager, traveling to New York regularly to buy clothes for the store and customers she loved.  Our hearts are broken to say goodbye to the most giving Mom, best friend, best Bubba and devoted wife.  We love her and miss her so much already.  Rest in peace. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Friday at 11 AM. Visitation one hour prior to services (10 - 11 AM). i left pittsburgh in 1981 but i never forgot ellen and the laughter and her "take on life" that she left me with when we nursery school carpooled and had playdates (did not have a name then) with lynda and my daughter donna. through the years a memory will be triggered that always brings a smile to my face. not only was she beautiful, adorable and hilarious but she was devoted to everyone in her family. my heartfelt sympathies go out to the calig family for your enormous irreplaceable, one of a kind loss. shirley shratter zimmerman 404 brookview circle nw atlanta, ga. 30339 clz767@aol.com i would like to take roslyn for lunch if the time comes when when she is comfortable talking about ellen and her family.

I knew Ellen in high school and even attended her wedding. About a year ago we became Facebook friends. I am so very sorry to hear of her death. My condolences go to the entire family!
