 LEVY, MAURICE: On Monday, March 14, 2016; Beloved husband of Joan (Wolinsky) Levy. Loving father of Debbie (Mitch) Levy-McKenney of Pittsburgh, Richard (Debra) Levy of New Jersey and Karen Levy Finkel of New York City. Grandfather of Molly (Matt Kendrick) McKenney, Ethan (Laura) McKenney, Alice McKenney, Sarah McKenney, Jenna Levy, Maddi Finkel and  Lydia Finkel. Great grandfather of Lucas McKenney. Mr. Levy was a Master Mathematics teacher and math department chair at Peabody High School. His interest in music lead him to interview 300 Pittsburgh musicians for The Oral History of Music In Pittsburgh Project that he created. The project was named in his honor and is archived in the music department of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc, 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Wednesday at 11 AM. Visitation one hour prior to services (10 - 11 AM). Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation. Contributions may be made to Friends of the Music Library, P.O. Box 81090, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I am grateful for the many deep conversations Maurice and I shared at the library over the years.

Maurice Levy was a knowledgeable,helpful music scholar. I will always be grateful for his great help and advice for my research on popular music for my adult-ed courses. He was gentle, kind and always welcoming.
