Shirley Polen Joel; on Monday, October 2, 2017; Beloved wife of the late Max Joel; Loving mother of Helene Joel Weiner (Stanley); and Barry Joel (Patricia), all of Pittsburgh. Sister of the late Irene Freed. Aunt of Mark Freed (Betsy). The family wishes to thank Shirley's wonderful nurse Cindy Piso as well as her other caregivers. Shirley volunteered in the gift shop at Beth Shalom Synagogue for many years as their buyer and decorator. She lent her artistic flair to numerous decorating committees of local organizations to which she so generously devoted her time. Friends may meet at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc, 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside, on Wednesday at 2:00 PM and then proceed to Beth Shalom Cemetery for 3:00 PM graveside services.
