MACHTIGER, AVRAM: On Friday, November 30, 2018. Beloved partner of 37 years of Dr. Lathrop "Lathe" Haynes. Son of the late Sidney and Harriet Machtiger. Brother of Bennett Machtiger and Marcia Machtiger.Uncle of Kate and Peter Machtiger and their canine companions, Jack and Gunner. Avram was a graduate of The American School in London, completed his undergraduate at Grinnell College and obtained two Masters Degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He continued to support his alma maters by serving on the alumni associations of both The American School in London and Grinnell College. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be announced at a later date. Contributions may be made to Grinnell College, 1115 8th Avenue, Grinnell, IA 50112. My sincere condolences...we all go so far back! Avarm and I met in graduate school and became fast friends over a joke I made in class one day. We had a special bond during those days, and whenever I saw him over the years it was like no time had passed. My heart is saddened by the news of his death. He will be missed by many of us.

Although there are no words, Lathe, you and Ave( he’ll always be Ave to me) showed me what love was really about. Thank you both for that gift that you probably never knew you gave me.
