BARBARA SHAPIRO STEIN: Passed away on January 3, 2022. Barbara was a beloved children’s librarian. She began her career at St. Edmund’s Academy, then as the young adult librarian at the Carnegie Library, Main, and finally at Chatham Elementary, in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, from which she retired in 2003. Born on January 9, 1938, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Harry and Rose Shapiro, Barbara married Stanley Mayer Stein (deceased) in 1959. Barbara was a mah jong maven who loved to read mysteries and travel with her cherished mah jong friends. She adored her two children, Sally and David (Sheila), and her grandchildren, Sarah, Jesse and Jayne. She is also survived by her sister Linda Grayson (Sawyer), many dear nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Wednesday at 2 PM. Visitation one hour prior to service, (1 - 2 PM). Interment Torath Chaim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s memory to Animal Life Line Pittsburgh, 139 E. 8th Avenue, Homestead, PA, 15120. Shiva will be observed Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Sheila and David May-Stein. At the request of the family that all attendees be fully vaccinated, boostered and masked. www.schugar.com

We are so sorry to hear of your Mom\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s passing. I have fond memories of Shappy at Allerdice. She always had a smile and nice words for everyone. May her memory be a blessing to you and your family. (We are out of town or would have been at the funeral.)
