I got to know Gary shortly after he got his cancer diagnosis. He joined Temple Sinai and as a member of the Caring Committee, I brought him a welcome bag with goodies. I asked him what brought him to Temple Sinai and he replied”I want a community for my sons to be able to grieve with when I die”. It was such an impactful statement and was the first of many ways he demonstrated his love and devotion to his boys. Over the past 4 years, we had a lovely friendship. When he moved to Weinberg Terrace, we started going to the Sunday Farmers’ Market across the street. It was bittersweet when we gravitated to the many dogs who were there. He missed Alf (and Max) and I missed my Lacy. Our last Sunday together, he was noticeably tired and down. Gary - they told you it would be 6 months - you lived another 4.5 years. The doctors did not know you and your determination. Rest well, my friend.

You all have our deepest sympathies on the loss of your Dad. We got to know Gary here at Hidden Valley as a neighbor and fellow dog lover where we enjoyed so many afternoons on the golf course … not playing golf but playing with the dogs. We admired your Dad’s determination in his battle with cancer and will surely miss him . Again, our deepest sympathy.
