David Forbes Nilsson

DAVID FORBES NILSSON was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on September 25, 1943. He died on January 29, 2025 at the age of 81. The cause of death was a fatal cardiac event. He grew up in Hampton, Iowa and graduated from Hampton High School in 1961. He attended Iowa State University, majored in journalism, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1966. He married Deanna Isely in August 1966. Together they moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan then to Pittsburgh, PA, where he took a job for the Pittsburgh Press. He first covered city hall and then took over the education beat. He worked at the Press for 25 years. He next took a job at Union Switch and Signal, where he also worked for 25 years. During his time at the Press, he began bicycling to work, then planned a trip to upstate New York with his wife Dee and his daughter Victoria. Bicycling became a passion for the family, and they did many long distance rides together. He slowed down a bit in his 70s and walking (with or without his dog) became his main source of exercise. He was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and on January 29, 2025, he experienced a cardiac event which proved fatal. He died that afternoon. A memorial service is planned at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside, on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 5 PM. Visitation 4 PM - 6 PM. Interment Private. www.schugar.com
