FRISS, LESLIE HOWARD: Died peacefully at home with his family on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 79 years of age. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Harry and Minnie (Kruman) Friss, graduated from Allderdice High School, and married Merlyn Roth on June 29, 1958. He was proud of his service in the Army during the Korean War and continued to support veterans for many years through his service to the Jewish War Veteran's including several years as the Commander of Post 299. He is remembered by many as the proprietor of the Clark Building newsstand which he ran with his parents for over 20 years. He greeted his regular customers by name and all with a smile. He followed this with ten years of distinguished service to the federal government at the Oakdale military base. In 1998, he realized his dream of retiring to Florida, moving to Delray Beach where he served on the condo association Board, traveled with friends, was active in the Senior Olympics, entertained family and friends who visited from up North, and enjoyed the sunshine and warm weather. While his many health challenges slowed him down from time-to-time, with the care provided by his wife, he was able to enjoy many good times with family and friends. He was especially grateful for the kidney transplant that gave him eight years free of dialysis and became an active member of the local Kidney Association helping others with kidney disease. A special thanks to Deb and Ray who welcomed him into their home and provided extraordinary care for the last few months of his life. Thanks also to the Family Hospice for their support and care. Leslie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merlyn Friss; his daughter, Beverly Boget, her husband, Chris and their daughters, Leah and Kate; and his son, Raymond Friss, his wife, Deborah and their children, Jason and Jessica. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Minnie Friss. Les will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to services (1 - 2 p.m.). Interment Homewood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Kidney Association of South Florida, 1764 North Congress Ave., Suite 205, West Palm Beach, FL 33409.
