STEPT, M.D. WILLIAM JOSEPH: Of Fox Chapel, died, at the age of 81, on Friday, May 16, 2014. He was survived by his wife, Janet Stept, and predeceased by Esther Siegle Stept. He was the beloved father of Dr. Larry Stept (Elaine), Glenn (Shaun), Mark (Pesha), the late Bonnie Stept-Myers (Scott), and Jimmy Gillespie (Lori) and twelve grandchildren and the brother of Dr. Leonard A. Stept (Kathy). He was born to the late Reva and Abe Stept on December 25, 1932, in Johnstown, PA. Dr. William Stept attended Westmont High School, in Johnstown, PA. He graduated college from the University of Pittsburgh and received his medical school diploma from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He trained for his anesthesiology residency at UPMC under the tutelage of Dr. Peter Safar. He received his fellowship in pain management from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Stept began practicing medicine in New Kensington, and subsequently moved his practice to Shadyside Hospital. During his tenure at Shadyside Hospital, he was Chief of the Medical Staff, Chief of the Anesthesiology Department, and Chief of the Pain Medicine Department. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Sunday at 11 AM. Visitation one hour prior to services (10 - 11 AM). Interment Beth Shalom Cemetery.
