June 30, 2015

KREMEN, DAVID: On Tuesday, June 30, 2015; Son of the late Abraham and Leona Kremen. Brother of Paula (Morton) Smith. Uncle of Brian Smith (Deborah Becker), Jill Smith (Richard Butwinick) and Erica (Alexander) Nicholson. Great-uncle of Claire and Aaron Butwinick and Mia and Sam Nicholson. David belonged to Alliance Francais and also George Romney Society in England. David was a president of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Jewish Committee. He was a member of the Law Department of Westinghouse and was their principal international attorney. He was a member of the International Nuclear Law Association and the American Bar Association. David was a gentleman and a scholar. David traveled the Globe as a corporate lawyer for Westinghouse Corporation and lived for many years in Bruxelles, Belgium. He spoke six languages: English, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portugese. He was a great lover of the arts and attended performances and gave generously to the Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Symphony, Pittsburgh Opera, PICT, Kinetic Theatre, the Andy Warhol Museum, and many, many others.  He was a volunteer and contributor for the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh.  He narrated one of their feature films called "Deadly Medicine." David was also president and very active in his condominium council on Forbes Avenue. He was a brilliant conversationalist and loved to discuss and debate. He could have an informed discussion on nearly any topic and was the most brilliant man I've ever met. He loved the underdog and always reached out to and fought for the persecuted and under served. In the words of friend Dana Spiardi, "He was a man for all seasons, a dapper bon vivant, a fellow traveler, adventurer, art addict, film fanatic, music devourer, culture junkie, history buff and a lover of all things ethnic, exotic, and exquisitely produced." His favorite city was Venice, Italy and he loved to stay at the famous Danieli Hotel there, conversing effortlessly in Italian, sipping his coffee, and nibbling on his morning pastry overlooking the Grand Canal. Graveside services and interment on Thursday at 9 AM in Homewood Cemetery. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday July 12 at 11 AM at New Light Congregation, 1700 Beechwood Boulevard, Squirrel Hill. Contributions may be made to Keren Ayelet Hahachar -- The Gazelle Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation, 5 PPG Place, #250, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. David will be truly missed by all knew him. He left this world too early in life and now there's a void in his absence. May he forever rest is peace.
